10 Session Effective Anger Management Course

Get Lasting Results with our 10 Session Course for Effective Anger Management.

Find out what it’s like to be able to express your angry feelings in a more engaging and constructive way that promotes dialogue rather than distance.  This program uses proven steps to identify triggers for anger, understand its origins and effect on others, and develop lasting coping skills to curtail it.  The course is a progression tailored to the individual needs of the participant and progress is measured along the way. “Homework assignments” between sessions are designed to make the program even more effective for you.

SESSION 1 – Introduction and Intake:  Specific precipitants for seeking help.  Complete a psychosocial history.  Determine other significant factors: extreme life stressors, substance-abuse or other addictions, medical or psychological problems for the patient or significant others.  Determine goals and strategies.

SESSION 2 – Identify Anger Triggers:  Closely review past and present triggers for anger outbursts. Determine the level of responses to anger triggers.  Examine the response of others and/or consequences to your anger (especially significant others, Family members, friends, employers, etc.).

SESSION 3 – Examine  Past Responses:  Closely review historical responses of excessive anger, review specific scenarios past and 10 Steps to Effective Anger Managemetpresent and further examine the consequences and outcomes of each.  Discuss possible alternative responses to the situations discussed in the session.

SESSION 4 – Perceptions of Anger:  Determine the client’s perceptions of anger in general and in themselves.  Learn to feel entitled to anger, separating this from how it’s been expressed.  Start to learn to express it differently.

SESSION 5 – Stress and Stressful Situations: Define them specifically for the client. Examine how they affect long and short-term reactions and attitudes. Continue to formulate alternative coping mechanisms for and reactions to stress, both immediate and long-term.

SESSION 6 – Anger Entitlement:  Integrate the concept that the client is entitled to their anger and further develop more effective means of expressing it.  Review current situations, relationships and ongoing scenarios where an alternative approach might be implemented.

SESSION 7 – Anger Response Improvement (Progress Report):  Discuss specific instances, between the previous and current sessions, where the client was confronted with a stressful situation that might normally have prompted an excessively angry response and examine their improved response.  Explore the client’s sense of effectiveness or ineffectiveness of their handling of such situations.

SESSION 8 – Coping Mechanisms for Anger:  Review and improve coping mechanisms.  Instill “default” behaviors when confronted with a single or ongoing stressful situation. Further evolve interactive techniques into more effective communication skills.

SESSION 9 – Review Results:  What has worked for the client and how?  Where might improved skills be further put to use?  Take an inventory of positive outcomes or improvements and address areas that still may need improvement.

SESSION 10 – Relapse Prevention:  Review the entire course, specifically focusing on the areas that the client felt required the most attention when they enrolled.  Discuss the tools that work best for the client and how to routinely implement them going forward. Also discuss how to recognize signs of “relapse” wherein excessive anger bouts may resume on occasion and what to do about them.

At the conclusion of the course, the client is presented with a certificate of completion for the program. The client is also invited back for “touch ups” should they feel the need for follow-up sessions for any reason.  But the course participant will come away with improved and effective means of expressing both anger and other feelings and the ability to contain the behaviors that compelled them to take the course.  Others will notice and be more willing to engage a calmer, expressive person. The potential for enhancement of all life areas will be significantly improved.
